I have a preset where a number of the controls and their associated actions need to be deleted.
Could you tell me the correct sequence to do this correctly please.

Controls can be deleted when not referenced. So in normal case:
* delete all actions in the control (click on the first, shift+click on the last, delete)
* detach logical control and immediately delete it (otherwise it is named as "Detached <number>", hard to find correct one later).
* delete physical control.
I almost never delete controls... so simpler procedure is not programmed ;)
