X Touch Mini Issues with Sonar

my apologies if this is the wrong place to post this question as i am a new user of the tool. 

I am using Cakewalk Sonar and attempting to get an X Touch Mini (XTM) to do the following.  Any advice, including RTFM page X would be great.  Thanks!

NEEDS:
1) XTM main fader controls overall volume of all tracks - i mostly have this.  Using the instruction guide i figured out how to set it to "master" and it works but doesn't go all the way to 0 volume.  I can live with this but it would be great to get it to 0

2) Get the 8 XTM rotors to control volume.  I tried this with unknown, rotary, and slider on the OPTIONS tab, but i can't get a nice 0-to-127 curve.  Rather, I just get 1,2,0,65,66,67.  IS there a way to get the rotary to function like a fader?

3) Get the top row of buttons to be mute buttons.  When I press the button on the XTM i see the MIDI signal and it changes to 127, then back to 0 when i release the button.  I configured the Logic to Strip>track>mute but it doesn't change anything in the DAW.  Do i need more than one value?

4) Get the XTM lower-row buttons for PLAY and STOP to work.  I am without clues on these.

I don't really understand what you mean by "overall volume". Master control should work correctly, but note stereo master is not always "one strip", I mean left and right can be different "strips". Check what is happening with corresponding faders in Sonar interface when you operate XTM.

Also check XTM really send values from 0 to 127 (Last MIDI Event) and you use "Absolute" mode to set volume in AZC. It should map to 0..1 values which cover whole range in Sonar (for any parameter). The control type should not be "Pad/Button" (otherwise 0 is interpreted as "Note off" and by default AZC will not execute Set action).

Control type in AZ Controller is not influencing how AZ Controller interpret information. Except for "Pad/Button" (explained above).

XTM encoders can send "Left/Right + speed" or absolute values (0..127). "1,2,65,66,67" means the first (1 - one direction, 2.3.4 - faster turning in this direction), 64 - other direction, 65,66,... - faster in that direction). Use "Endless" mode of "Set value" action. Also search "Set selected parameter value." in the manual.

In AZC you first select parameter and then define what to do with it. So after Strip>track>mute, you have to Set value. In this case "Toggle" is the right option in it (till you want mute as long as you press only, in this case set control type to "Unknown" and use "Absolute" mode of Set Action... AZC is flexible )

4) Get the XTM lower-row buttons for PLAY and STOP to work.  I am without clues on these.

Check control type is "Pad/button" and use Command Action. In options you can find corresponding commands (the list is almost the same as in Keyboard Bindings, but note Commands available from Sonar Menu are separated from other).


But I want return to my original advise. Start with my preset. It does what you have asked for in "Multiple strip layer", except you will have to change "Bus" to "Master" for the fader and swap controlling Mute/Solo if you want Mute without Ctrl pressed. That preset also provides reasonable feedback (LEDs), "Fine tuning" and other layers.

i tried to download the latest version yesterday but windows Defender did not care for it so i went back a version to 0.5r11 b425 and it installed fine. 

when in "Utilities> AZ Controller" i do not see any presets.  although i do see AZ Controller in "Utilities>Plug-in Manager", it has no presets to manage, and if i navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\AZController" there is no appropriate file for it to import.  I didn't see any extra files in the details of the installer either.  Do i need to grab the preset from somewhere else?

Most presets have to be downloaded separately, they are attachments to the first posts in corresponding threads (.spp files, link just after post, right before "Downloaded N times").
