Title: [AZ] Mackie MCU (Pro) / LC protocol
Post by: azslow3 on October 05, 2015, 04:33:17 PM
The preset was not tested with any real device. No users had willing to test/debug/enhance it.

Installation:

Functionality:
In general, the preset mimics the original Mackie plug-in from the Sonar distribution (see its help file for details). Important difference:

Hello, I am looking the AZ Controller to setup and configure a Mackie MCU plus 2 XT extenders plus a C4.

Am I to understand that there have not been enough participants to properly test this. I was under the impression that Sonar and Mackie MCU were a popular match.

PLease advise ,
Thank you kindly!

Hello,

So far there was (almost) no requests to make something different with MCU. And while AZ Controller has a preset fro one MCU (without XT or C4) it was never properly test.

The good news is that I also have a mod, and can add something more, to the original Cakewalk Mackie Plug-in. Unlike AZ Controller (single man closed source project), Mackie plug-in is open source. So that is also "safe" option in a long term.

So, please let me know what you do not like in the standard plug-in and I will see what I can do.

There was at learn one report that C4 is stably crashing Sonar when controlling ProChannel with my mod (which you can find there: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Mackie-Control-support-improvements-m3311275.aspx )
But there was no future detail, either it also crash with Stock plug-in, with MCU also, etc. So I had no "direction" to check what can be wrong.

Hello.  I must be missing it here, but I am looking for the .spp file for the MCU pro.  I don't see the little paper clip icon, like I see for other .spp protocols.

thanks,

Balinas

Hello and welcome!

Some presets are "build-in", they are generated by the plug-in itself when required. Just follow "Installation" steps in the first post to generate it.

But as you can also see in the first post, this preset is still just a prove of concept, not well tested. There is my mod of the original Cakewalk MCU plug-in.

Hi , i m actually using this mod with a maschine studio that has a mackie preset also , i didn t find stuff not working , exept the close win ( had to re assign to alt + f4 ) , àd i created a lot more to play with the maschine , it s by far one of the beast around giving the fact that you have also the pads 8 bank of 16 !!!)

So far , for me mackie control is mature enought to use it as a starting point ... , still trying to find out how to create banks of knobs ( without having to actually have different midi cc. For exemple on knob 8 and 16 ) and trying to find out how to use swtches in act mod ....( az has solo , mute , select already ready to use ...)

Hi Alexy,

I now have my studio rack back at home and will pick up with the Yamaha 01V implementation again soon.  I recently bought an MCU.

After playing with the default MCU template, I found that the VPots don't seem to control switch parameters well - the internal value didn't always get to 1.0 (or above half way in some cases) to turn a switch on, so I set about trying to modify the preset.

I have added VPot Switches "VS1-8" (MIDI Notes 32 - 39) but only added logic for Switches 3-5, for tr. Interleave, Phase and Input echo

I created Hardware controls called:
_funcVSw3
_funcVSw4
_funcVSw5
All above with Parameter Name and Value monitors
_funcVSwParM

I also swapped the Interleave and Phase display and physical control order, as they were the reverse of Sonar screen.

I am sure that I have not been as tidy as you, but I was trying.. :D

My next goal would be to allow all the VSw to become ACT Buttons also...
In testing, I see that I have broken something in Sends SE. Mode.  Pushing any of VSw 3-5, sends the fader to -Inf or +6.0dB on consecutive presses - probably copied in some settings that I should have copied

In trying to read the preset, I struggle with some of your abbreviations
as in these examples:
(PlugNBu)
(OffPlugBuS)
(PlugNTr)
(OffPlugTrS)
(OffPlugBuM)
(PlugNTr)
(OffPlugTrM)
(OffEQBuS)
Even understanding the Camel case and catching some of the words, I fail to understand their meaning in context.

I think I have to go and reconfigure my ACT learnings for the MCU.  I have downloaded the latest controller version and setup Multiple Instances (AZ 01V, and AX MCU) to try and avoid stuffing anything up.. the 01V still appears to be working as per our last efforts, but the MCU PC EQ seems to use the first 4 VPots and Faders and then duplicates them onto the last 4 VPots and faders even have read this thread about the multiple contexts.

Linz.

Sorry, MCU preset is a mess  ;)
It was build as a prove AZ Controller can do everything MackieControl does, in addition attempting to mimic TouchDAW Phone compatibility (which has failed...).
The preset is almost untested and based on "outdated" AZ Technology. I do not want (and I do not recommend) to use it as a basis for anything.

In general AZ Controller 1 development is stopped. I plan to continue with AZ Controller 2, for Reaper or Reaper/CbB is not yet clear. In case BandLab will advance with CbB development, I can consider it as a target. But in its current state, CbB is technologically outdated (not only for Control Surfaces, but almost in all other parts). It becomes clear for me once I have tested Reaper.
