Title: Korg nanoKONTROL2 Mixer Preset
Post by: cbarn on February 08, 2016, 11:58:25 PM
Hi all,

The posts on this forum have been so helpful in understanding AZController (and SONAR's inner workings) that I wanted to give something back, so I humbly offer my preset for the Korg nanoKONTROL2 controller for your use.

The purpose of my preset is to use NK2 primarily to control the mixer & transport, with a few functions for marker & audio control - details outlined below.

One file is attached NK2_Mixer.spp, my preset which you can import using the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager.  You'll need to configure your NK2 with the Korg Kontrol Editor to use MIDI channel 1, CC mode (with all the defaults), and change the LED controls to "External" so AZController can use them to give you feedback.

Shift key: The "Cycle" key is used as a shift key to add more functions.  It's momentary (hold while using the other control), and will light when in use.

Mixer:  The first 7 channel groups (fader, rotary, mute/solo/record buttons) control regular tracks in the mixer.  Buttons provide feedback for state, and monitor SONAR's settings.  Fader controls volume, rotary controls pan.  Shift-Rotary controls the level of the first send on that channel.  Fader & rotary are in "catch mode", i.e. won't mess with level until you're close to what's already set in SONAR.  You can set a color in WAI to see what 7 channels are being controlled.  The two "track" buttons will shift the selected group of track left/right until you hit the end of channels.

The 8th mixer group controls a single bus, and will also show in WAI.  My first bus is always my master bus, which is what it defaults to.  You can control another bus by pressing Shift and one of the track buttons to move left/right.  Rotary still controls pan, Shift-rotary controls first send.  Mute works normally for the bus.  Solo & Record buttons have special functions:  Solo will run/stop the audio engine as gracefully as possible (one of my old controllers occasionally sticks a note).  Record resets all peak level indicators.

Transport: Works mostly as you'd expect.  Lights on the buttons track their state.  The play button toggles between play and pause.  If you are in "Pause" mode, the play button will flash rather than holding steady.  The stop button will stop even if you're in pause (SONAR often disables the on-screen stop button if you're in pause mode).  Reverse & Forward are momentary - it'll scroll as long as you hold them.  Shift-Reverse will rewind to zero - there's a glitch here, make SURE you let go of rewind FIRST, then Shift, otherwise those transport buttons can start to latch instead (hasn't tripped me up enough to fix it, sorry!)  Shift-Record pops up record options so you can change them (e.g. sound-on-sound vs. overwrite; curiously that dialog won't let you pick comping).

Markers:  The marker buttons work as expected - Set will set a marker whether you're in play/record or stopped (the latter gives you a prompt to name it), and the marker arrows move you back and forth to prev/next marker.

Undo/Redo:  Shift the marker arrows to get undo/redo functions.

Hi,

Thank you for publishing the preset!

Two small comments:
* Switch to Buses/Switch to Tracks Sonar commands have a glitch, if that is important for you I can describe the (only and tricky) way to make it reliable (it is also somewhere in this forum and in most my presets, but I will explain one more time)
* for FF/Rewind. You can check "FastMove" system state to make the decision either to call the command or not on "Note:Off". Alternatively, you can use "Function/Transport/Rewind On/Off" instead of command. That should fix the glitch with RTZ.

PS. I am going to move this thread into "Presets" board soon, please do not think I have made the decision to "delete" it ;)
